The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has dismissed four officials from its Nebo Local Office in Sekhukhune following an internal investigation that uncovered their involvement in a R33 million social grants fraud scheme.

The officials were found to have colluded with external syndicates to manipulate the social grants system, resulting in fraudulent activities that siphoned public funds intended for vulnerable communities.Disciplinary proceedings led to their dismissal, which was upheld by SASSA's Appeals Committee due to the severity of the misconduct.

The agency emphasized its zero-tolerance stance on fraud and corruption, stating it remains committed to safeguarding the integrity of the social grant system.

Regional Executive Manager Mapupula Pheeha highlighted that fraudulent activities undermine public trust and deprive communities of essential support.SASSA has implemented enhanced monitoring, stricter internal controls, and staff ethics training to prevent future incidents.
