Social Development Minister Dina Pule has announced that over 350,000 social grants will be reviewed this financial year as part of SASSA's ongoing verification process.

The initiative aims to safeguard the integrity of South Africa's social assistance system by identifying beneficiaries whose circumstances may have changed, thereby preventing fraud and ensuring funds reach those in genuine need.Pule revealed that more than 420,000 grants were flagged for review during the 2025/26 financial year, with over 240,000 already processed.However, around 160,000 beneficiaries failed to comply, leading to grant suspensions and frustration among recipients.

The minister emphasized that these measures are mandated by the Social Assistance Act and highlighted advancements in data-sharing between government departments and financial institutions to enhance verification accuracy.

Pule also outlined plans to recruit over 1,000 contract workers to reduce waiting times at SASSA offices and expand e-Life Certification technology for digital eligibility checks.Additionally, home visits will continue for elderly beneficiaries over 75 years old who are unable to travel.

These efforts underscore the government's commitment to balancing administrative efficiency with compassionate service delivery in social welfare.
