Saturday Night Live releases post-show performances of Paul McCartney with Will Ferrell and Chad Smith

Saturday Night Live has released footage of exclusive post-credits performances featuring Paul McCartney following his appearance as musical guest for the season 51 finale.

During the live broadcast, the Beatles icon performed tracks from his recent and upcoming work, including ‘Days We Left Behind’ from his forthcoming album ‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane’ and the 1980 solo track ‘Coming Up’.After the show ended, McCartney remained on set for informal performances recorded for cast and crew, which have now been shared online.

In the newly released clips, McCartney is joined by Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and actor and comedian Will Ferrell, who contributes his trademark cowbell. The trio perform energetic renditions of two classic Beatles songs from 1965, ‘Help!’ and ‘Drive My Car’.

Ferrell’s involvement references his famous Saturday Night Live sketch in which he played cowbell alongside Christopher Walken in the iconic ‘(Don’t Fear) The Reaper’ parody, a performance that became a cultural touchstone and has led to repeated cowbell appearances in later performances. The article also notes McCartney’s wider recent television appearances.

He participated in the final episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he performed ‘Hello, Goodbye’ and took part in a symbolic closing moment at the Ed Sullivan Theatre.

Additionally, McCartney commented on actor Paul Mescal, who will portray him in an upcoming Beatles biopic series directed by Sam Mendes, describing him as ‘very cute’.

His forthcoming album, ‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane’, is scheduled for release on 29 May and will include a duet with former bandmate Ringo Starr on the track ‘Home To Us’, marking a rare vocal collaboration between the two former Beatles.

The broader piece also mentions McCartney reflecting on Bob Dylan, his views on modern influencer culture, and an upcoming Beatles fan experience at 3 Savile Row in London, set to open next year.
