Schmigadoon! wins Best Musical as Death of a Salesman and Ragtime collect multiple honours at the 2026 Tony Awards

The 79th Tony Awards celebrated the best productions of the 2025–2026 Broadway season at Radio City Music Hall in New York.Hosted for the first time by singer Pink, the ceremony recognised outstanding achievements in theatre across plays and musicals.The musical Schmigadoon!emerged as one of the evening’s biggest successes, winning Best Musical as well as Best Original Score, Best Orchestrations and Best Book of a Musical.Meanwhile, Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman was the most awarded individual production, earning six Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Play.

Laurie Metcalf won Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in the production, while Joe Mantello received the award for Best Direction of a Play.Ragtime also had a strong night, winning Best Revival of a Musical and several acting and technical categories for a total of four awards.In the acting races, Joshua Henry won Best Leading Actor in a Musical for Ragtime, while Caissie Levy received Best Leading Actress in a Musical.

John Lithgow won Best Leading Actor in a Play for his portrayal of Roald Dahl in Giant, becoming the oldest male performer to win a competitive acting Tony at the age of 80.Lesley Manville was awarded Best Leading Actress in a Play for Oedipus.

Other notable winners included Liberation, which won Best Play, and Cats: The Jellicle Ball, whose directors Zhailon Levingston and Bill Rauch won Best Direction of a Musical.

The ceremony also featured anniversary tributes to several landmark Broadway productions, including The Book of Mormon, Chicago, A Chorus Line and Rent.
