A Senate panel has raised serious concerns about the misallocation of flood rehabilitation funds in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), accusing authorities of diverting resources to less-affected areas for political reasons.

During a meeting chaired by Senator Saifullah Abro, the committee scrutinized the implementation of foreign-funded projects, highlighting disparities in road construction projects across districts.

Mardan received the highest number of road projects despite not being among the worst-hit areas, while severely affected districts like Upper Dir, Lower Dir, and Chitral received fewer initiatives.

Senators criticized the lack of transparency in project selection criteria, noting that reconstruction efforts were prioritized in areas with minimal flood damage.

The committee also questioned the World Bank's alleged interference in a Sindh project, emphasizing that project execution should remain under local authority.Officials stated that provinces now own foreign loans, but delays and poor resource utilization continue to burden the economy.
