The Senate impeachment court may issue a show-cause order to Zuleika Lopez, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) chief-of-staff, if she fails to appear and testify in the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Senate impeachment court spokesperson Reginald Tongol clarified that the court can compel Lopez to explain her absence if she does not comply with the subpoena.Lopez was ordered to appear before the court on July 13 and 14 to provide material testimony related to the impeachment case.During a coordination meeting with Senate Secretary Renato Bantug Jr.

, Lopez mentioned her visit was to prepare for Typhoon Inday, but Tongol noted the court cannot confirm if this indicates compliance with the subpoena.The court emphasized that failure to adhere to court orders, such as not filing a memorandum, may result in being asked to explain the absence.The Senate has allocated a holding room for Duterte's possible visits during the trial, with expectations that she will appear.

Both prosecutors and the defense are required to submit memoranda on the subpoena regarding Duterte's financial records and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) box containing her tax documents.

The trial's first week concluded with the prosecution presenting its first witness, and the second week will involve Lopez and NBI official Jeremy Lotoc testifying.
