U.S.Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) has publicly criticized President Donald Trump's push to delay the Senate recess until the SAVE America Act is passed, calling it an 'act of futility.

' Cornyn, who recently lost the Texas Republican primary runoff after Trump endorsed his opponent Ken Paxton, argued that Trump's strategy risks disappointing Republican voters 99 days before the midterm elections.

The SAVE America Act would impose strict voting restrictions, including proof-of-citizenship requirements and voter ID rules so stringent that even REAL ID driver's licenses would be insufficient in most states.

Cornyn noted that both he and Paxton supported the legislation, but Paxton threatened to drop out of the race if Congress passed it before the primary, aiming to shift blame for its failure onto Cornyn.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) also dismissed Trump's demands, emphasizing that there are not enough votes to alter Senate rules to block a Democratic filibuster.The debate highlights tensions within the Republican Party over voting rights policies and strategic maneuvering ahead of critical elections.
