The Senate impeachment court faces opposition from several senator-judges regarding its decision to subpoena financial records of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Manases Carpio.

Impeachment court spokesperson Regie Tongol noted that Senator-Judges Alan Peter Cayetano, Pia Cayetano, Loren Legarda, Imee Marcos, and Camille Villar have submitted separate manifestations expressing reservations about the subpoena for bank, tax, and Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) records covering periods from 2007.

Imee Marcos clarified her opposition is limited to records outside Duterte’s current term as Vice President, arguing such matters should be addressed in regular courts.Camille Villar emphasized that the subpoena should only include records from Duterte’s term, citing the Supreme Court’s ruling in Duterte v.House of Representatives.Senator-Judge Robin Padilla also opposed the subpoena, suggesting it sets a precedent for accessing financial records of all impeachable officials.The debate highlights tensions between judicial oversight and procedural boundaries in impeachment proceedings.
