Shanghai has launched a comprehensive strategy to solidify its position as a leading international shipping and aviation center by 2030.The plan, outlined during the 15th Five-Year Period (2026-2030), aims to enhance global connectivity, operational efficiency, and sustainability in its maritime and air transport sectors.

Key objectives include increasing container port throughput to over 58 million TEUs annually and expanding Shanghai Pudong International Airport's capacity to handle 150 million passengers yearly.

The initiative emphasizes infrastructure development, such as the Xiaoyangshan North Terminal and Luojing Port Area, alongside digitalization and green transformation efforts.Shanghai's port retained its status as the world's busiest container port for 16 consecutive years in 2025, handling 55.06 million TEUs.

The plan also focuses on strengthening high-end shipping services, including specialized insurance products and arbitration frameworks, while promoting smart and low-carbon innovations.The city's efforts align with national strategies to bolster its role as an international economic and technological hub.
