Activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike after receiving written assurances from the Centre, citing fears of a potential crackdown similar to the 2025 Ladakh incident.

In a YouTube video, he clarified that his decision was driven by concerns over violence against protesters and legal repercussions for students involved in the movement.

Wangchuk emphasized that his primary goal was to protect protesters from legal actions, not to demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.He criticized the Centre for treating him like a prisoner during his hospitalization, restricting his movements and access to communication devices.Despite meeting with Union ministers, he insisted on a written guarantee against legal cases against peaceful protesters before ending his fast.

The Centre assured him of parliamentary discussions on examination reforms and compensation for families of students linked to the alleged NEET paper leak.

Wangchuk expressed confidence that the movement would continue pushing for accountability, though he lamented the absence of supporters during his fast's conclusion.
