Sony Pictures has joined forces with Annapurna and Plan B to adapt Alex Michaelides' bestselling novel 'The Silent Patient,' which became a global phenomenon after its 2019 release.The book, published by Celadon Books in the U.S.and Orion Books in the UK, topped the New York Times Bestseller list and sold over 12 million copies worldwide.The adaptation is being fast-tracked, with plans to secure a writer soon.The story follows Alicia Berenson, a celebrated painter who murders her husband and remains silent, drawing the attention of therapist Theo Faber.

Sony has a track record of successful literary adaptations, including 'It Ends With Us,' 'Little Women,' and 'Where the Crawdads Sing.

' Plan B, led by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner, has also produced acclaimed films like 'The Big Short' and 'Women Talking.' Annapurna's recent projects include the Oscar-nominated animated feature 'Nimona.' The collaboration underscores the novel's cultural impact and its potential for a high-profile cinematic release.
