Amazon's satellite broadband enters South Africa through Herotel partnership
Shaun Nare, a 27-year-old commercial analyst from Midrand, created Wallet Hero, a free grocery price comparison website, inspired by his grandmother's habit of comparing supermarket pamphlets to stretch her budget.
The platform allows users to input their shopping lists and instantly compare prices across six major retailers: Shoprite, Checkers, Pick n Pay, Woolworths, Clicks, and Dis-Chem.With food inflation and rising living costs straining household budgets, the site has attracted over 2,000 users since its launch last month.
Nare emphasizes that the platform's community-driven approach updates prices only after multiple user confirmations, reflecting South Africans' growing price sensitivity amid economic pressures.
The website highlights products like toiletries, cosmetics, maize meal, sugar, and meat as high-demand items, underscoring the financial challenges many families face.
Nare, who developed the site for under R2,000 during his free time, aims to expand Wallet Hero by adding more retailers and seeking partnerships while keeping it free for users. His goal is to alleviate financial stress by helping families stretch their budgets, restoring dignity through affordable essentials.
