Bayanda Walaza, a 20-year-old South African sprinter, has made history by becoming the fourth-fastest athlete in the country's athletics history.His remarkable achievement came during a meet in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, where he clocked an impressive 9.89 seconds over 100m, setting a meeting record.This time places him behind only Akani Simbine (9.82), Benjamin Richardson (9.86), and Gift Leotlela (9.87) in the all-time South African rankings.Walaza's performance was notable for defeating seasoned competitors like Jamaican Ackeem Blake (10.04) and Canadian star Andre De Grasse (10.05).

The victory follows his earlier successes, including winning the 100m-200m double at the under-20 world championships and the 2025 World University Games.

Despite not being selected for the Commonwealth Games team due to late season start, Walaza remains a key member of South Africa's powerful relay squad, which includes Simbine, Leotlela, and Sinesipho Dambile.His achievement underscores his potential to continue dominating international competitions.
