South African athletes put in strong performances at the Diamond League meet in Rabat on Sunday.Sinesipho Dambile made an impressive return from injury, finishing third in the 200m in his Diamond League debut with a time of 20.03 seconds.The race was won convincingly by American Kenny Bednarek in 19.69 seconds, setting a meet record.Botswana’s Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo claimed second in 19.96, while Canadian Andre De Grasse finished fifth.In the 1,500m, Tshepo Tshite was the first African across the line, coming fifth overall in 3:31.53, just shy of his national record.The race was led by US Olympic bronze medallist Yared Nuguse.Prudence Sekgodiso ran a controlled 800m, finishing sixth in 1:57.41, her fastest time since mid-2025, though Swiss Audrey Werro broke the meet record.In other events, Zakithi Nene placed fourth in the men’s 400m, Marioné Fourie clocked a season’s best of 12.62 in the 100m hurdles, and Tobi Amusan of Nigeria won the race.

Overall, the South African contingent showed promise, with podium finishes and strong national performances, signalling a return to form for several key athletes.
