Edmonton’s southwest neighbourhoods, including Windermere and Terwillegar, are experiencing significant traffic congestion as over 200 city construction projects continue.

Residents report that commutes which once took 30 minutes have stretched to as long as two hours, particularly around Terwillegar Drive and Anthony Henday Drive.

While some road lanes appear closed without visible work, the City of Edmonton attributes these disruptions to the ongoing expansion of key infrastructure, including the Terwillegar Drive overpass and rehabilitation projects on major bridges.

The city emphasises that construction is necessary to accommodate rapid population growth in the southwest, and that hundreds of projects are proceeding on schedule and within the $7 billion budget allocated.

Measures such as accelerated roadwork strategies, previously used on Stony Plain Road and Wellington Bridge, aim to reduce the duration of work and its impact on traffic.City officials encourage drivers to use alternate routes and consult the traffic disruptions map to plan their commutes.Residents express frustration over simultaneous projects affecting multiple roadways, calling for better coordination to minimize traffic headaches.
