SpaceX announced that it will acquire Anysphere, the developer of the AI-powered coding platform Cursor, in an all-stock transaction valued at $60 billion.According to the company, the acquisition is expected to close during the third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
The agreement follows an option secured by SpaceX in April that allowed the company either to form a partnership with Cursor for approximately $10 billion or pursue a full acquisition later in the year for $60 billion.Founded in 2022, Anysphere has experienced rapid growth, reportedly generating around $2.6 billion in annualized revenue and expanding its enterprise customer base.Earlier in 2026, the company was reportedly seeking new funding at a valuation of about $50 billion.
Cursor has become one of the most prominent AI-assisted development tools, offering features such as code completion, chatbot assistance, and autonomous AI agents capable of performing coding tasks.
The acquisition comes shortly after SpaceX completed a record-breaking IPO that raised more than $80 billion and valued the company above $2 trillion.Industry analysts view the transaction as a strategic move to strengthen SpaceX’s position in the enterprise artificial intelligence sector.Experts note that the company's investments in infrastructure, connectivity, and technology could provide advantages as AI adoption accelerates.SpaceX shares rose following the announcement, extending gains recorded since the company's public debut.
Investor interest was also supported by the launch of options trading for SpaceX stock, providing new ways for market participants to trade and hedge positions in the recently listed company.
