SpaceX Targets $1.77 Trillion Valuation in Planned IPO While Remaining Unprofitable

SpaceX has announced plans for a landmark initial public offering that could value the company at approximately $1.77 trillion, potentially making it the largest IPO in history.According to the filing, the company intends to sell about 555.6 million shares at $135 each, raising roughly $75 billion.

If achieved, the valuation would place SpaceX among the world's most valuable companies, surpassing several major technology firms and exceeding the valuation associated with Saudi Aramco’s record-setting 2019 public offering.

Elon Musk, who owns around 42 percent of SpaceX, would remain firmly in control after the IPO through a dual-class share structure that grants him more than 82 percent of voting power.Shares are expected to begin trading on Nasdaq on June 12.

Analysts noted that SpaceX’s decision to set a fixed share price before its investor roadshow is unusual and reflects management’s confidence in demand for the offering.

Founded in 2002, SpaceX operates rocket launch services, spacecraft development programs, the Starlink satellite internet network, and artificial intelligence activities through xAI.

Investors are being asked to support Musk’s long-term vision, including ambitious plans related to Mars colonization and expanding humanity’s presence beyond Earth. However, the company remains unprofitable, reporting a net loss of $4.9 billion on $18.7 billion in revenue during 2025 and an additional $4.3 billion loss in the first quarter of 2026.

Experts have highlighted the contrast between SpaceX’s valuation, which is largely based on future growth expectations, and previous record IPOs that were supported by strong profitability.Market enthusiasm nevertheless remains high, with some investors anticipating an even larger market capitalization after trading begins.
