New Zealand head coach Dave Rennie has confirmed that Richie Mo'unga will not be part of the Springboks tour squad for the 'Greatest Rivalry' series against South Africa.The decision follows Mo'unga's eligibility issues due to his club commitments in Japan.

Despite speculation about his potential return, Rennie stated the 32-year-old fly-half will not feature in the 44-man squad until October, after completing his domestic provincial season.The coach emphasized that Mo'unga remains an option if an injury occurs, but highlighted the team's preparedness with a pre-selected line-up.The tour, set for August 22, will include matches against South African franchises like the Stormers and Sharks.

Rennie also noted that all players will have an opportunity to showcase their skills in the first week of the tour, though the selectors already have a preferred squad in mind.

The decision underscores the strict eligibility rules under New Zealand Rugby, which require players to meet specific criteria before being considered for international selection.
