The Stratbase Institute emphasized that the 10th anniversary of the landmark arbitral ruling over the West Philippine Sea (WPS) is not merely a celebration of past legal victory but a call to action.

The think-tank organized a high-level forum with defense experts and diplomats, including Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro and AFP Chief of Staff Gen.Romeo Brawner, to discuss the ongoing responsibilities tied to the 2016 ruling.

President Dindo Manhit of Stratbase highlighted that the award provides a legal foundation for the Philippines, but its survival depends on collective resolve, credible deterrence, and collaboration across sectors.

He urged strengthening frontline agencies like the AFP and Philippine Coast Guard, along with diplomatic efforts to translate support into defense cooperation and maritime awareness.

A recent survey showed 66% of Filipinos support the government’s response to China’s aggression in the WPS, underscoring the national importance of upholding the ruling.

The institute stressed that maintaining the arbitral win’s relevance requires sustained effort, not just historical pride, to ensure its enforceability in the face of ongoing challenges.
