Supreme Court says third language should begin earlier than Class IX to avoid burden on board exam students
The Supreme Court of India has permitted the release of the animated film 'Mahaprabhu Jagannath' nationwide on or after July 28, following the conclusion of the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra festival. The decision came after the Orissa High Court initially blocked the film's release, citing concerns over religious sentiments and public order.
The High Court had argued that the film's release during the Rath Yatra could cause unrest, but the Supreme Court noted that the festival would end by July 27, allowing the film to be released afterward. The Central Board of Film Certification had already cleared the film, and a related YouTube series exists.
Tensions arose when the Jagannath temple administration in Puri and others objected to the film's teaser, leading to requests for scene modifications.Producers had scheduled the release on July 17 without implementing changes, prompting a legal challenge. The Supreme Court emphasized freedom of speech while acknowledging the need for reasonable restrictions.Justice BV Nagarathna questioned the impact of the film on religious devotion, with the court asserting it would not diminish it.The case highlights the balance between artistic expression and religious sensitivities in India.
