The Supreme Court has agreed to hear on July 29 a plea filed by the Muslim side regarding the implementation of its interim directions in the long-running Bhojshala dispute in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh.

During the hearing, counsel representing the Muslim side argued that the state government had not complied with the court's earlier order to provide an adjacent or nearby open space for offering Friday namaz.According to the submission, the location identified by the authorities is around 1.3 kilometres away by road, making it impractical for worshippers.

Senior advocate Huzefa Ahmadi told the court that two consecutive Friday prayers had already been missed because a suitable nearby site had not been made available.In response, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta stated that the distance was approximately 900 metres.

Ahmadi disputed the relevance of the shorter measurement, remarking that worshippers could not reach the site by air and that the road distance remained significantly longer.

The dispute follows the Supreme Court's interim order of July 14 directing the Madhya Pradesh government to identify an open space adjacent to or near the disputed Bhojshala complex where Muslims could offer Friday prayers between 1 pm and 3 pm until the matter is finally decided.

The case stems from appeals challenging a Madhya Pradesh High Court judgment declaring the Bhojshala complex to be a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati.

The protected monument has long been claimed by Hindus as Bhojshala and by Muslims as the Kamal Maula Mosque, making it one of the state's significant religious and legal disputes.
