Tamil Nadu CM Vijay’s film 'Jana Nayagan' gets 'A' certificate after prolonged certification process

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay's film 'Jana Nayagan' has finally received an 'A' certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after a seven-month delay.

Originally scheduled for release on January 9 ahead of the Pongal harvest festival, the film was submitted to the CBFC on December 19, which requested several changes.

After implementing the suggested modifications, the film was initially considered suitable for a 'U/A' certificate, allowing children under 12 to watch under parental guidance. However, the process stalled when a committee member raised objections about certain scenes potentially hurting public sentiments. The film is now set for a worldwide release on July 24.Directed by H Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, the film stars Vijay as a former police officer turned vigilante.

The certification dispute led to legal proceedings, including a Supreme Court hearing, after which the producers opted to present the film to the censor board's revising committee. An unfinished HD version of the film was leaked online in April, viewed nearly 1.2 crore times before being blocked. The Tamil Nadu Police arrested individuals linked to the leak, including a freelance editor. The Madras High Court denied bail to two accused, citing the seriousness of the allegations. The film's release coincides with Vijay's tenure as CM, as he had previously described it as his final film before entering politics.
