Government Responds to Counterfeit Currency Case in Manyoni District
Dar es Salaam — Tanzania is officially ready to start implementing Vision 2050 from July 1st, 2026.The National Planning Commission, chaired by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has approved four major frameworks to guide the process.
These include the National Planning Guideline, National Guidelines for Approval of Development Projects, National Guidelines for Monitoring and Evaluation of Projects, and a Five-Year Communication Strategy for Vision 2050 covering 2026/27-2030/31.
According to Prof Kitila Mkumbo, these tools will ensure all ministries, local authorities, and public institutions align their plans with national priorities, and every development project undergoes strict review before funding approval.
The monitoring and evaluation framework includes 142 indicators across governance, civil service, investment, innovation, productivity, socio-economic, and environmental reforms.
Twelve priority sectors have been identified for monitoring, such as agriculture, industry, mining, energy, tourism, digital content, trade, education, social protection, the blue economy, and science and technology.
Strategic projects like Liganga Iron Ore and Mchuchuma Coal, Engaruka Soda Ash, LNG, and Kabanga Nickel will support industrial growth, energy supply, and Tanzania's role in the green economy.
Prof Mkumbo emphasized that unlike Vision 2025, Tanzania now has a full set of instruments to guarantee successful implementation of Vision 2050, making failure highly unlikely. The Commission also plans strong supervision and stakeholder engagement to ensure smooth progress.
