Tanzania has called upon Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states to prioritize regional unity in addressing emerging global challenges that threaten both security and economic stability across the continent.

The appeal was made during a ministerial meeting in Malawi, where senior officials discussed strengthening collaborative defense and political mechanisms.

Tanzania's delegation emphasized the need for robust early warning systems to detect threats to peace and security, as well as economic risks like resource competition and trade disruptions.The meeting highlighted the importance of collective action to prevent conflicts and ensure regional stability.Malawi’s foreign affairs minister acknowledged progress in regional integration but warned that complacency could undermine achievements.Discussions also focused on strengthening democratic institutions, improving governance, and promoting sustainable development pathways.

The SADC bloc, comprising 16 member states, faces challenges like climate change, resource conflicts, and transnational crime, which require coordinated responses.Tanzania’s stance reflects a growing recognition of the interconnectedness between security and economic stability in southern Africa.
