The Government of Tanzania has allocated over TZS 429 billion to expand the Tanga Port, doubling its annual cargo capacity from 0.75 million to 3 million metric tonnes.This investment enables the port to handle larger vessels and increase cargo throughput.

Minister Khamis Mussa Omar highlighted progress on infrastructure projects including the Tanga–Arusha–Musoma SGR, upgraded Tanga Airport, and regional road networks.The expansion includes deepening the port entrance, upgrading berths 1 and 2, and plans for a new 300-metre berth.Officials noted that completed dredging and construction allow direct access to international markets.Omar emphasized commitment to completing the Tanga–Pangani road project on time and accelerating regional development initiatives.The investment underscores Tanzania's focus on enhancing its position as a regional logistics hub through critical infrastructure upgrades.
