Tanzania is set to host the 12th Conference of the Parties (COP12) to the Nairobi Convention, a major international gathering focused on marine conservation and sustainable ocean management.

The event, scheduled from October 6-9 at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam, will bring together global delegates, government officials, environmental scientists, investors, and representatives from international organizations.

Deputy Minister Reuben Kwagilwa emphasized that Tanzania's selection reflects international trust in its leadership on sustainable marine resource management.

The conference aligns with Tanzania's National Development Vision 2050, aiming to strengthen the Blue Economy through sectors like fisheries, tourism, and maritime transport.

Economic benefits include foreign investment, technology transfer, and partnerships, while environmental discussions will address marine pollution, climate change adaptation, and regional cooperation among Western Indian Ocean nations.The event also commemorates 40 years of the Nairobi Convention, which protects shared marine ecosystems.Hosting COP12 positions Tanzania as a leader in balancing economic growth with environmental conservation.
