Tanzania’s exports of goods and services recorded strong growth in the year ending May 2026, reaching USD 19.679 billion, an increase of 17.8% compared with the previous year.

According to the Bank of Tanzania’s Monthly Economic Review for June 2026, the improvement was mainly supported by higher earnings from gold exports, tourism, and manufactured goods.Goods exports increased by 20.4% to USD 11.628 billion, with gold exports rising by 46.7% to USD 5.532 billion due to favourable international gold prices and increased domestic production.Manufactured goods exports also performed well, growing by 38.3% to USD 2.009 billion, supported by demand for products such as iron, steel, and glassware from neighbouring markets.Traditional exports, including tobacco, coffee, and cotton, increased by 12.8% to USD 1.640 billion.Service receipts rose by 14.2% to USD 8.052 billion, driven largely by tourism and transport services.Travel earnings reached USD 4.419 billion, supported by a 5.9% increase in international tourist arrivals to 2.3 million visitors. The report also highlighted wider economic developments.Inflation increased slightly to 4.2% in May 2026 due to higher fuel-related transport costs, while private sector credit expanded by 23.2%, particularly in transport, communication, trade, and agriculture.Foreign exchange reserves improved to USD 5.539 billion, covering approximately 4.3 months of imports.Overall, the data reflects continued economic expansion supported by exports, investment activity, and improved foreign exchange inflows.
