Dar es Salaam Trade Fair Marks 50 Years of Economic Growth in Tanzania
During this year’s Sabasaba agricultural and trade fair, Tanzanian businesses recorded Sh3.89 billion in trade transactions, prompting President Hussein Mwinyi to announce strategic initiatives to boost commercial activities and market access.The annual event, which has grown from an agricultural showcase to a comprehensive trade platform, underscores Tanzania’s economic potential.
President Mwinyi emphasized leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the Zero Tariff scheme to expand Tanzanian products across Africa and beyond.AfCFTA, involving 54 African nations with a combined GDP of $3.4 trillion, offers significant opportunities for Tanzanian exporters.The Zero Tariff initiative aims to reduce import duties, enhancing competitiveness in regional and international markets.
The Sabasaba fair, held annually on July 7th, serves as a critical barometer for Tanzania’s economic activity, connecting manufacturers, farmers, and service providers with potential partners.
The government’s focus on expanding market access aligns with broader efforts to diversify East African trade relationships and reduce reliance on traditional export destinations.These initiatives aim to position Tanzanian businesses to compete globally while fostering deeper regional economic integration.
