Tanzania Appoints Rio Ferdinand to Promote Tourism Globally
The Tanzanian Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism has presented a budget of TZS 334.35 billion for the financial year 2026/2027.Out of this, TZS 272.04 billion goes to recurrent expenses like salaries and operations while TZS 62.30 billion is set aside for development projects in wildlife, forestry, tourism and antiquities.The budget is almost the same as last year's allocation.The ministry expects to collect TZS 1.49 trillion in revenue, mainly from Tanzania National Parks and Ngorongoro Conservation Area.In 2025, Tanzania welcomed 5.93 million tourists which brought in USD 4.4 billion.This shows good growth from previous year.Tourism now contributes 17 percent to the country's GDP and the government wants to reach 20 percent by 2030.
The budget will support new tourism products, better conservation efforts, use of modern technology for booking and marketing, and policy reviews to attract more investors.Key projects include development of MICE tourism, southern tourism circuit, and infrastructure improvements in national parks.Several international partners like Germany, France and European Union are helping with funding.The sector continues to perform well with awards like World's Leading Safari Destination.This budget shows the government's strong commitment to grow tourism as a major economic driver while protecting natural resources.Overall, it balances day to day operations with important development activities for future growth.
