Tanzania is set to commence construction of the Sh6.31 trillion Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) Lot 6 connecting Tabora and Kigoma, with President Samia Suluhu Hassan expected to officiate the groundbreaking ceremony during her visit to Kigoma Region.

The 506-kilometre project, managed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) under Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) supervision, has already reached 10% completion.The event will take place at Katosho Grounds in Kigoma-Ujiji Municipality, inviting residents from surrounding areas.The railway aims to enhance connectivity, boost economic opportunities, and strengthen trade links with neighboring Great Lakes countries.

Additionally, the president will launch four new Lake Tanganyika vessels and oversee the near-complete rehabilitation of the century-old MV Liemba, which is set for sea trials.The project underscores Tanzania's focus on infrastructure development and regional integration.
