The Avalanches have collaborated with Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ frontwoman Karen O on the melancholic single 'Blue Shadows', which draws inspiration from an early-1980s Italo disco track by Blue Gas.

The song, described as 'achingly forlorn', features Karen O's haunting vocals and was revived after being discovered by band member Tony Di Blasi in an old folder.

Robbie Chater, a member of The Avalanches, explained that the track's ethereal quality and Karen O's emotive performance create a sense of timelessness, as if the song 'always existed'.The collaboration follows Karen O's previous work with The Avalanches on their 2020 album 'We Will Always Love You'.The band has also recently released other collaborations, including a track with Jamie xx, and are set to perform at major festivals.
