Thordur Palsson Confirmed as Director of the Dead by Daylight Film Adaptation

Behaviour Interactive and Blumhouse have officially announced that Icelandic filmmaker Thordur Palsson will direct the upcoming live-action adaptation of Dead by Daylight. The announcement was made during the game's 10th anniversary broadcast.Palsson is known for his work on the Netflix crime series The Valhalla Murders and the horror film The Damned.

During the presentation, he explained that he first became familiar with Dead by Daylight during the COVID-19 pandemic while watching his roommate play the game.

He described the experience as highly cinematic and said his primary goal is to recreate the tension, fear, and constant sense of dread that players feel while trying to survive in The Fog.

According to Palsson, the film aims to capture the feeling of always looking over one's shoulder and the lingering unease that defines effective horror.

Blumhouse founder Jason Blum also participated in the announcement and emphasized that the movie is being created first and foremost for fans of the game.

Although development has taken longer than initially expected, Blum stated that production is now moving forward more quickly, with filming scheduled to begin in 2027.Several iconic locations from the game, including The MacMillan Estate and Greenville, are expected to appear in the movie.

The project is a collaboration between Behaviour Interactive, Blumhouse, and Atomic Monster, the production company founded by horror filmmaker James Wan.The screenplay is being written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Alexandre Aja, both of whom have extensive experience in the horror genre.

The announcement represents a major milestone for the long-awaited adaptation of one of the most successful multiplayer horror games of the last decade.
