TikTok creator Monique Pearls passes away after brief illness, leaves young son and family in mourning
TikToker Peter Kioi has left many Kenyans worried after he recently left a rehabilitation facility and went live on TikTok to discuss plans for his own funeral.
The content creator, who was sponsored by Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria for treatment on substance abuse, had some issues at the centre leading to his discharge.
Mosiria even suggested he goes to Mathare Hospital for further checks, but Kioi rejected this and criticised the official for using his story to promote the rehab. In an emotional live session with his friend Collins Omondi FM, Kioi opened up about his burial arrangements. He said the dressing should be done by Ann Mwangangi to support fellow TikTokers, any coffin is fine, and even a boxer shorts as suit is okay.
He wants everyone at the funeral to wear white, and the eulogy to simply state he was born, never finished school, became a thief and died - without calling him a good person.Kioi also said no candlelight vigils, instead people should go clubbing to celebrate his life after the funeral ends at 11am.He made it clear there will be no fundraising as everything is already sorted. His friend confirmed receiving the full burial protocol from him.
Netizens have reacted with concern, with some saying words have power, others rebuking the negativity, and many feeling he needs more help as depression seems to be affecting the youth badly. This incident has sparked talks about mental health and the pressures facing young content creators in Kenya.(Word count: 278)
