President Bola Tinubu has positioned the 2027 presidential election as a major decision point for Nigeria, stressing that voters should prioritise continuity of ongoing reforms over what he described as politicians with no clear alternative vision.

Speaking in Abuja during his acceptance speech after receiving the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket, Tinubu argued that his administration’s economic and institutional reforms need time and stability to fully yield results.

He insisted that the next election should not just be about party competition, but about strengthening Nigeria’s democratic maturity and avoiding a reversal of progress.

Tinubu highlighted key policy actions taken since assuming office in May 2023, including removal of fuel subsidy, exchange rate reforms, tax restructuring, and infrastructure development.

According to him, these measures have already started improving fiscal performance, strengthening revenue generation, and boosting economic outlook despite inflationary pressures linked to global conflicts.

He also pointed to improvements in power generation, claiming increased output and a major metering initiative aimed at closing gaps in electricity distribution.On social investment, he referenced education funding through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which he said has supported over 1.5 million beneficiaries.In infrastructure, he mentioned ongoing national road projects, airport upgrades, and expansion in ports and the oil and gas sector.

On security, Tinubu admitted there are still challenges but said government is investing in intelligence, surveillance, and community partnerships, while also supporting a constitutional amendment to allow state police.He also called for unity among political actors, saying democracy thrives on diverse ideas, and extended a hand of cooperation to opponents.Overall, the speech framed his 2027 campaign around continuity, reform protection, and national stability.
