The Indian political landscape witnessed significant developments as the opposition parties walked out of an all-party meeting called by the Centre. The protest was triggered by the Union government's decision to invite the rebel faction of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), whose 20 MPs have announced their intention to merge with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI).

TMC MP Mahua Moitra highlighted that the petitions submitted by her party for disqualifying the 20 MPs are still pending, questioning the legality of the invitation under the 91st amendment.Congress MP Jairam Ramesh criticized the move, calling NCPI a 'parking place' for rebels.

The Speaker had earlier allowed the rebel MPs to sit separately in the Lok Sabha, and Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated the merger request is under consideration.

This comes amid internal divisions within TMC after losing Assembly elections to BJP, with nearly 60 MLAs rebelling to support Ritabrata Banerjee as Opposition leader. The situation underscores growing political tensions and challenges to party unity.
