An 11-year-old boy from Gujarat's Kheda district died after a lion attacked him near the Girnar staircase during a pre-dawn pilgrimage trek on Saturday.The incident occurred near the 50th step of the staircase, prompting authorities to close the route and capture three lions.Forest department officials identified the victim as Mayur Chauhan, who had begun climbing the hill with his family.Search teams recovered the child's remains from the forest.Pilgrims reported that some sections of the staircase were poorly lit due to non-functional lights after recent rains.The forest department captured a lion that regurgitated human body parts, confirming its involvement.Two other lions were also captured and will be sent to Sakkarbaug Zoo for examination.Girnar, a significant pilgrimage site for Hindus and Jains, attracts thousands of devotees daily.Authorities are investigating the incident to prevent future occurrences.
