United States President Donald Trump has accused Iran of carrying out a drone attack on Indian ships departing from the Strait of Hormuz, calling the alleged action “totally unacceptable”.

In his social media remarks, Trump did not specify which vessels were targeted, but the statement comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia involving maritime security and military activity.

According to reports, between Monday and Thursday, US forces struck three foreign-flagged vessels operating off the coast of Oman that had Indian crew members onboard.One of the vessels was identified as the Palau-flagged tanker Settebello.

These strikes resulted in the death of three Indian seafarers, raising serious concerns in New Delhi about the safety of civilian shipping in the region.

Following Trump’s accusation, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei rejected the framing of US actions and stated that strikes on vessels carrying Indian crew members “threaten global peace and security”.

He further described the attacks as evidence of what he termed “state piracy”, while also expressing condolences to the families of the deceased seafarers.India’s Ministry of External Affairs has also taken up the issue diplomatically.

The MEA summoned the US Chargé d’Affaires Jason Meeks for the second time, strongly protesting against the continued use of lethal force against civilian shipping in West Asia.India conveyed its deep concern, calling such actions unacceptable and warning that they endanger maritime safety and international commerce.It also urged the US to ensure restraint and prevent further civilian casualties.

Separately, Trump also accused Iran of leaking inaccurate details regarding a proposed peace agreement with Washington, claiming that the terms circulated in media had no relation to what was actually agreed upon.

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, however, urged caution against speculation, stating that discussions around the memorandum of understanding were progressing and closer to finalisation than before, while discouraging premature reporting.
