Trump Says Federal Government Could Assume Greater Control of Washington, D.C., if Socialist-Aligned Mayoral Candidate Wins
President Donald Trump used his Truth Social platform to criticize Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland while also announcing his endorsement of Sara Baxter, a Palm Beach County official running for Congress in Florida.
In a lengthy social media post, Trump attacked Raskin over his role in impeachment efforts against him during his first term, calling the Democratic congressman a 'loser in life' and arguing that Republican lawmakers should expel him from Congress.
Trump also accused Raskin of suffering from what he referred to as 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' and echoed comments previously made by conservative commentator Mark Levin.
Raskin responded during an appearance on MSNBC, suggesting that Trump continues to dwell on the impeachment proceedings and saying the former impeachment efforts still appear to weigh heavily on the president. The exchange highlights the ongoing political tensions between Trump and some of his most prominent congressional critics.Shortly after posting about Raskin, Trump shifted his attention to Florida politics by endorsing Sara Baxter, the mayor of Palm Beach County.Baxter recently withdrew from a county commission race to pursue a congressional seat in Florida's newly redrawn 22nd Congressional District.
Although Trump expressed that he would have preferred Baxter remain involved in local government, he nevertheless offered his support for her congressional campaign. The endorsement carries particular significance because Palm Beach is closely associated with Trump. His Mar-a-Lago residence and private club are located there, and he has been registered to vote in Palm Beach since 2019.
The events demonstrate Trump's continued involvement in both national political disputes and Republican candidate endorsements ahead of upcoming elections.
