Former US President Donald Trump posted an AI-generated video on his social media platform, Truth Social, targeting television host Stephen Colbert immediately after the final broadcast of The Late Show.
The video, heavily doctored, shows Trump lifting Colbert and placing him into a dumpster, followed by a celebratory dance to 'YMCA' in front of a cheering crowd.This action continues a long-standing feud between the two figures.Trump described Colbert as a 'total jerk' with 'no talent, no ratings, no life' and expressed relief at the show's conclusion.CBS had announced the cancellation of the 33-year late-night programme in July, citing financial reasons amid a challenging late-night market.
The cancellation came shortly after Colbert criticised CBS’s parent company, Paramount, for settling a $16 million legal dispute with Trump, which related to allegations of misleading editing during a 2024 interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris.Despite the controversy, Colbert’s final episode attracted 6.74 million viewers, marking the highest weeknight viewership of his 11-year tenure.
The finale included appearances by several late-night hosts, as well as Paul McCartney performing 'Hello, Goodbye' with Colbert, his family, and production staff.The show ended symbolically with the turning off of lights at the Ed Sullivan Theater.
