Two policemen, Patrolman Apollo Morante Pagurayan and Patrolman Joerel Basilan Bullos, were killed in an ambush in Barangay Tinumigues, Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat province.The incident occurred on July 7, 2026, when the officers were riding a motorcycle on their way to their detachment from a public service mission.Gunmen armed with assault rifles ambushed them along a highway, resulting in immediate fatalities for both victims.The perpetrators managed to escape before local officials and volunteer community watchmen arrived at the scene.Police investigators and intelligence units from the 6th Infantry Division are collaborating to identify the gunmen for prosecution.

The victims belonged to the 1202nd Company of the RMFB 12, a rapid deployment unit tasked with addressing remnants of the now-defunct terror groups Dawlah Islamiya and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.

The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, prompting calls for enhanced community and police cooperation to prevent such attacks.
