A lawsuit filed by Uber driver Rafael Manvelyan has brought forward new allegations against actor Kiefer Sutherland regarding an incident that allegedly occurred in Los Angeles on January 12.
According to court documents cited in media reports, Manvelyan claims he picked up Sutherland as a passenger and experienced communication difficulties because his primary languages are Russian and Armenian and he speaks limited English.The lawsuit alleges that Sutherland became increasingly agitated during the ride and that the actor appeared visibly intoxicated.Manvelyan claims that Sutherland's behavior escalated from verbal hostility to physical violence.
The driver alleges that Sutherland repeatedly struck him with closed fists in the head, face, neck, and upper body while he was operating the vehicle.The lawsuit further claims that Sutherland placed him in a chokehold and repeatedly threatened to kill him.According to the allegations, Manvelyan eventually exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the situation.He asserts that Sutherland followed him down the street while continuing to threaten him.The driver says that portions of the encounter were captured by his vehicle's dashcam and that witnesses observed at least part of the incident.The lawsuit states that Manvelyan suffered injuries affecting his head, face, neck, spine, and shoulder.He also claims that responding police officers observed bruising and swelling on his forehead when they arrived at the scene.The allegations were reported by TMZ and remain claims contained in a civil lawsuit.
