A United Democratic Alliance (UDA) legislator has criticized voters in the Ol Kalou constituency for rejecting the party's candidate during a by-election.

Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia accused residents of being 'liars and rebellious' after DCP candidate Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru won with a landslide victory, securing 35,440 votes compared to UDA's Samuel Muchina Nyagah who got 5,450.

The MP called on voters to return gas cylinders distributed under government development projects, citing initiatives like road construction, electricity connections, and borehole drilling.The defeat marks one of UDA's biggest losses recently, seen as a political test in the Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2027 elections.Kururia's comments highlight tensions between the ruling party's allies and former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua's supporters.
