Uganda High Court to Deliver July 7 Ruling in Dispute Over Suspension and Expulsion of Rotary Club Members

The High Court Civil Division in Kampala has scheduled July 7, 2026, to issue a ruling in a case involving five members of the Rotary Club of Kampala Ssese Islands who are contesting their suspension and expulsion from the organization.

The applicants—Nelson Turyatemba, Ronald Samuel Wanda, Gladys Edwards Namala, John Martin Sekwe, and Byamukama Robert—filed legal action against Rotary International and several club officials, alleging that their rights to a fair hearing and due process were violated. The dispute stems from a February 2026 disciplinary decision that suspended the members from all club activities and communication platforms.

The applicants argue that the club leadership failed to follow the procedures outlined in the organization's constitution and bylaws before taking disciplinary action.

Their lawyer, Kakuru Tumusiime, told the court that the suspensions were unlawful and is seeking reinstatement of the members, restoration of their participation in meetings and fellowships, and readmission to the club's official WhatsApp group.

The plaintiffs are also requesting general damages, claiming that the actions taken against them infringed upon their constitutional and procedural rights.

According to disciplinary committee documents cited in the report, some of the allegations against the suspended members include the use of abusive language toward another club member and performing club-related duties without authorization, actions that club officials said violated internal regulations.Justice Bonny Isaac Teko set the July 7 ruling date after a court session held at the High Court Civil Division in Kampala.Representatives of the Rotary leadership declined to comment on the ongoing case following the hearing.
