Uganda has completed the first phase of repatriating 1,102 citizens from South Africa following xenophobic violence and anti-migrant protests.The final evacuation flight, carrying 219 evacuees, landed safely in Kampala on Thursday.

The Ugandan Embassy in South Africa confirmed the successful conclusion of the government's voluntary repatriation exercise, which involved six coordinated flights.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted collaboration with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces to ensure safe returns, while Uganda Airlines and other partners supported the operation under President Museveni's directive.Returnees will undergo training at the Kyankwanzi National Leadership Institute to aid reintegration.The effort underscores Uganda's commitment to protecting citizens abroad and addressing the impact of regional unrest.
