Trump threatens military retaliation against Iran following assassination plot warnings
The United Kingdom has blamed an Iran-linked proxy group for a series of antisemitic arson attacks targeting Jewish sites across Europe, prompting the government to ban Tehran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and impose new security measures.
British officials announced that the Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right (IMCR) claimed responsibility for seven attacks this year, including fires at synagogues, Jewish charity ambulances, and a Persian-language media outlet critical of Iran. The UK government stated that members of the IRGC's Qods Force were 'almost certainly' directing the group's operations.
New legislation will allow prosecutors to pursue life imprisonment for those linked to the IRGC, IMCR, or Russia's GRU Volunteer Corps without proving direct foreign state involvement.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood accused Iran and Russia of using criminal proxies to conduct hostile activities in the UK, citing over 20 potential Iran-backed plots against individuals in the past year.
The government has sanctioned more than 550 Iranian-linked entities and allocated £250 million to enhance security for Jewish communities, including increased protection for synagogues and community centers.
