The Federal Government of Nigeria don conclude arrangement to receive Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment and learning materials for 15 Federal and State Colleges of Education across the country, under a Japan-funded education support initiative backed by UNESCO.
The project na part of a wider programme aimed at strengthening teacher training, improving classroom delivery, and promoting inclusive education, especially for girls.The official handover ceremony go hold on June 2, 2026 in Abuja.
The initiative, titled “The Project for Capacity-building of Teachers to Promote Continuous and Inclusive Access to Safe and Quality Education for Girls in West Africa,” dey funded by the Government of Japan through UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (UNESCO-IICBA).It dey implemented in collaboration with the African Union bodies focused on girls’ education and education development in Africa.
Under the programme, beneficiary colleges go receive ICT tools including 65 laptops, 71 tablets, 4 desktop computers, 19 all-in-one desktops, 5 interactive smart boards, 14 projectors, 15 printers, and 15 backup hard drives.These tools suppose help lecturers and student teachers improve digital teaching methods and classroom engagement.
The selected institutions include Federal College of Education Kontagora, Zaria, Gombe (Technical), Yola, Asaba (Technical), Oyo (Special), Umunze (Technical), College of Education Zuba in FCT, and several state colleges across Kano, Enugu, Sokoto, Adamawa, and Taraba among others.
According to the Federal Ministry of Education, the programme go help tackle major challenges like low learning outcomes, shortage of qualified teachers, gender inequality in education, and high number of out-of-school children.It also aim to promote safer and more inclusive classrooms, especially for girls in underserved and conflict-affected communities.
The intervention also includes teacher training, school safety guidelines, infrastructure upgrades, and digital learning support systems to improve overall education quality in Nigeria and other West African countries involved.
