The United States Department of State, working closely with the U.S.Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has stepped up its coordinated response to the ongoing Ebola outbreak affecting the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda.In this update released on May 29, 2026, the U.S.confirmed that it remains the largest financial contributor to the response effort, with total assistance commitments exceeding $162 million, aimed at strengthening containment and prevention measures in affected regions.

In addition to direct outbreak response funding, the United States has channelled $350 million through OCHA pooled funds to support broader humanitarian needs in the DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan.Another $50 million has been allocated to the Central Emergency Response Fund to help establish up to 50 Ebola treatment clinics.The U.S.also announced $13.

The response further includes enhanced contact tracing, multilingual public health messaging, and the deployment of testing cartridges and laboratory support to improve early detection.The U.S.emphasis remains on stopping the outbreak at its source while ensuring global travel safety, including coordinated travel screening measures ahead of major international events such as the FIFA World Cup 2026.Overall, the strategy combines funding, logistics, and international coordination to prevent further spread and strengthen regional health systems.
