The United States and Canada are both gearing up for their opening matches at the FIFA World Cup 2026, with coaches stressing readiness, mentality, and the challenges ahead.US head coach Mauricio Pochettino has warned that Paraguay will be a difficult opponent in their Group D opener in Los Angeles.

Despite being hosts and slight favourites, the US squad is being cautioned against complacency, especially given Paraguay’s strong qualifying campaign where they recorded notable wins over teams like Argentina and Brazil.

Pochettino highlighted the team’s improved physical, tactical and emotional condition, as well as a growing winning mentality shaped by recent warm-up matches, including a 3-2 win over Senegal and a narrow 2-1 loss to Germany.

He also confirmed that all 26 players are available for selection, including defender Chris Richards returning from injury, though he has not revealed his starting goalkeeper choice between Matt Turner and Matt Freese.
