US launches strikes on Iranian coastal and military sites following alleged attack on commercial vessel in Strait of Hormuz

The United States carried out military strikes on Iranian missile and drone storage facilities as well as coastal radar installations following an alleged attack on a commercial cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to the US Central Command, the action was taken after a Singapore-flagged ship, MV Ever Lovely, was reportedly struck by a one-way attack drone while transiting the strategically important waterway near the Omani coast.

US authorities accused Iranian forces of being responsible for the attack on the vessel, describing it as a violation of a ceasefire arrangement in the wider West Asia conflict zone.

In response, the US military stated that its strikes targeted infrastructure used for storing ammunition and operating surveillance radars along Iran’s coastal regions.

Washington justified the action as necessary to protect freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global trade route for oil and commercial shipping.

The US Central Command also claimed that it continued to coordinate safe passage for commercial vessels operating in the region amid heightened tensions.Iran, however, strongly rejected the US narrative.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps accused the United States of breaching existing understandings and claimed that Washington used the incident as a pretext to carry out unlawful strikes.

Iranian officials further stated that their naval forces responded by targeting US military positions in the region, escalating fears of broader regional confrontation. The incident comes amid ongoing tensions in West Asia following months of conflict that have disrupted maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

Earlier interim agreements aimed at reopening shipping lanes and reducing hostilities now appear increasingly fragile, with both sides accusing each other of violations and undermining diplomatic efforts.International observers have raised concerns about the risk of further escalation affecting global energy supplies and maritime security.
