Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Reflects on IPL 2026 Success, Emphasises Adaptability, Composure and Fitness

Rajasthan Royals batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said that one of the biggest lessons he gained from the IPL 2026 season was learning how to handle pressure situations and adjust his batting approach according to the needs of the match.

The 15-year-old emerged as one of the standout performers of the tournament and was named the Most Valuable Player despite Rajasthan Royals falling short of reaching the final after losing to Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2.Sooryavanshi enjoyed a remarkable season, scoring 776 runs in 16 innings at an average of 48.50 and an extraordinary strike rate of 237.30.His campaign included one century and five half-centuries, helping him secure the Orange Cap as the tournament’s leading run-scorer.He also set a new IPL record for the most sixes in a single season by hitting 72 sixes, surpassing Chris Gayle’s previous record of 59.

Speaking after the final, Sooryavanshi explained that players cannot approach every match in the same manner and must understand the match situation before deciding how to bat.He highlighted that the playoff matches particularly helped him develop this ability to adapt under pressure.

While he remains committed to his naturally aggressive batting style and backs himself to attack when opportunities arise, he acknowledged the importance of reading the game. The young batter also stressed the need to improve his fitness if he wants to enjoy a long and successful cricket career.

He credited the Rajasthan Royals setup, including senior players and support staff, for providing strong backing and creating an environment where he could learn and grow throughout the season.
